They were the ones that understood the assignment:culture moves fast, audiences are harder to impress and attention alone is no longer the win. What matters now is resonance, relevance, participation, the feeling that a brand is not just speaking to people but building something they want to step into.

This is what made Q2 2026 such a telling quarter for pr and marketing.Across Kenya and beyond, the strongest campaigns were rooted in community logic, creator fluency and live audience behaviour. They blurred the line between publicity and experience, between digital engagement and real world connection, between campaign messaging and culture itself. Three standout examples help make that shift visible:Infinix’s #createpro campaign, Heineken x KWAL’s “Fans have more friends” rollout and Kenya Power’s Twende Digital campaign. Each came from a different sector. Each spoke to a different audience. But together, they revealed the same thing:the future of brand communication is more participatory, more local, and far more intentional than the old playbook ever allowed.

Infinix #creator pro campaign offered one of the answers about creator marketing and what role creators play in a brand story. Rather than treating creators as decorative amplification, the campaign positioned creativity itself as the product ecosystem. Reporting on the Kenya rollout showed the campaign was built around partnerships with kenyan creators, while also extending in to gaming and a user generated content challenge tied to the NOTE 60 PRO.

This is no longer about plugging a product into influencer content and hoping for reach. The stronger model is to build campaigns around the creator economy itself, its aspirations, it’s aesthetics, it’s communities, and its social proof mechanics. In the Infinix case, the campaign connected device features to actual creative identity: photography, video, gaming, and storytelling. It made the phone feel less like hardware and more like an enabler of cultural production.

The smart move in the #CreatePro campaign was not simply the use of known personalities. It was the campaign architecture.

Credible creative talent rather than generic visibility-first influencers.

UGC mechanics that encouraged participation, tagging, and network effects.

Gaming and esports integration that reflected how digital communities actually gather.

Product storytelling anchored in use case, not just specification sheets.

For PR professionals and marketers, the lesson is clear: creator marketing now performs best when it is ecosystem thinking, not talent booking.

The old model said consumers build loyalty through repeated exposure. Q2 2026 said something more interesting: people build loyalty through shared emotions.

That is where Heineken x KWAL’s “Fans Have More Friends” campaign becomes especially relevant. Heineken launched “Fans Have More Friends” as a global sponsorship platform built around the idea that fandom creates social connection, with the campaign rolling out across multiple markets and major sports and music moments throughout 2026. In Kenya, the campaign was launched through KWAL with matchday and social experience positioning tailored to the local market.

What makes this compelling from a PR trends 2026 perspective is that it goes beyond sponsorship visibility. It taps into a powerful communications truth: people do not just want content; they want belonging.

Fandom is sticky because it is emotional, communal, and highly expressive. It gives brands a chance to move from passive association to active participation. When a campaign understands the rituals around football, music, or live experiences, it stops being an ad and starts becoming part of the social atmosphere.

That is exactly why this kind of experiential marketing and audience engagement works. It does not interrupt culture. It joins it.

The deeper trend here is that brands are becoming better at designing for social energy.

Not just “watch this,” but experience this together.

Not just “support this brand,” but find your people through this moment.

Not just transactional brand presence, but shared identity and memory-making.

In a fragmented media environment, that is gold.

For agencies and in-house teams, the takeaway is that community-building is now a measurable brand asset. Campaigns rooted in fandom, ritual, and collective participation are more likely to earn attention because they create emotional utility. They give people a reason to gather, react, share, and return.

Kenya Power’s Twende Digital campaign showed that even service-led institutions are being pushed to rethink customer engagement as a brand experience, not just an operational function. In June 2026, Kenya Power said digital platforms were already accounting for more than five million customer interactions every month, and linked the Twende Digital campaign to a broader effort to deepen engagement with more than 10 million customers. It also reported a 70% reduction in customer traffic within banking halls and said the campaign would be rolled out alongside nationwide customer experience roadshows. Kenya Power also described the roadshows as a nationwide initiative to bring services closer to customers while promoting adoption of digital solutions. This is bigger than a digitization story.

The campaign reflects several trends shaping modern brand storytelling in service environments.

Customer education as campaign strategy.

Roadshows and on-the-ground engagement as trust accelerators.

Digital adoption framed as convenience, not compliance.

Communications that blend service delivery, reputation management, and behavior change.

This is where many brands still miss the moment. They optimize for impressions and forget interaction quality. But modern audiences are not simply looking to be exposed to a message. They want some level of role in it, whether that role is expressive, social, practical, or community-based. That does not mean every campaign needs a hashtag challenge. It means every campaign should ask: what is the audience doing here, not just seeing? That question is shaping the next wave of consumer engagement strategies and digital PR.

For brands looking ahead, the signals are strong.

Creator partnerships need depth. Audiences are responding better to campaigns that treat creators as cultural collaborators, not rented reach.

Fandom is fertile ground. Shared passion remains one of the strongest ways to unlock emotional connection and organic advocacy.

Digital transformation needs communication. If behavior change is the goal, brands must market the value of new systems, not just launch them.

Local relevance is non-negotiable. Campaigns land harder when they feel built for the audience, not adapted as an afterthought.

Integration matters more than ever. Online and offline touchpoints work best when they reinforce a clear central idea.

Participation is the new power metric. The question is no longer just who saw it.
